Dormitory and Multifamily Housing
Communal living needs to provide the right balance between the need for privacy and the need for connecting with others. No matter how modest the dwelling, a well considered entry, a good closet or a sunny place to read can bring pleasure to someone’s daily life. Getting the right balance means that each dwelling unit has enough separation to feel like a private home and refuge, not just space for keeping possessions. At the same time there is an important relationship between the individual dwelling and the community. When the right balance is achieved, people feel safe and comfortable in their space and an easy social grace can prevail in shared spaces such as lounges, porches, and hallways.
